All the World is a Stage

So why not explore our acting skills in English? Ms. Hortert's English classes have been learning about Shakespeare and reading a variety of his famous works. They then have been practicing scenes to perform in front of their class with a variety of props. The prop that stops Mrs. Pieper's heart every time is the babydoll that looks surprisingly real! Pictured below are some of our 8th graders mid-scene.

BPA Shares the Love

BPA's fundraiser was very successful this year despite the COVID restrictions. Not only did they deliver bushels of balloons, flowers, and stuffed animals, but they also made sure EVERY child in the elementary school received something. They used their remaining balloons to show each elementary child that they are loved here at Cascade Schools! Pictured below is Mr. Schulte with the BPA officers and our NEW lockers overflowing with love!

Musician Honored

For the first time in many years, Cascade has a musician who has been accepted into an All-Northwest Honor group. Zoe Mazaira was chosen to be in the Wind Symphony as one of about 90 band members from the auditions submitted. There are typically over 900 students in the All-Northwest Honor groups. These groups consist of a concert band, wind symphony, symphony orchestra, mixed choir, women's choir, jazz band and jazz choir. They are organized by members of NAfME: The National Association for Music Education.Sadly, during this COVID-19 year, the festival cannot take place safely. The festival is typically in February. Thousands of the finest students musicians of the NAfME members throughout the Northwest Division auditioned for the All-Northwest Honor Groups. Adjudicators within each of the Northwest Division states (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming) reviewed the applicants and made their recommendations to division level adjudicators. Considerations for advancement are quality of audition recording, balance of ensemble, and state quotas with quality taking precedence. To help recognize the honor these students have earned, there will be items sent to each student who made the groups. There will also be special online clinics, just for these fine musicians, coming up this spring.WAY TO GO ZOE!!!

LOST AND FOUND If your child is missing clothes, and other items, please look at the attached pictures.  Contact sonja.mazaira@cascade.k12.mt.us if you would like to pick them up.  We will try to update this each week.  Once the word gets out we are only going to be able to store them for a couple of weeks before taking them to the Goodwill.  Let's get the word out so these items can get reunited.

What is ICU?

What is ICU?  ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit, just like in a hospital.  ICU is an academic support system for students and communication tool for teachers and parents and is built around a school-wide electronic database that tracks missing assignments.  All students completing all assignments is the foundation of this program.  Students learn quickly if they have one missing or poor quality assignment, their grade is sick and needs attention.  Students with missing or poor quality assignments have their names placed on an ICU list that can be viewed by all staff members.  Students are asked by a variety of staff members: "Who do you owe?"  "What do you owe?"  "What do you need?"  "How can I help?"  Staff members re-teach content material and provide students with extra assistance to complete their work: before school, during lunch, after school, etc.  Names are removed from the ICU list when assignments are completed and quality work has been done.It is crucial that parents, teachers, and administrators are all on the same page and convey the message that “All students will complete all assignments and do quality work.” From our Student Handbook:AssignmentsStudents will complete every assignment at a 70% or better. All students who have missing assignments or assignments that were turned in but of poor quality, have their names put on an assignment list. Parents are updated frequently via text/email throughout the week when their child is on the assignment list. The notification will inform the parents of the specific assignment(s) their child needs to complete in order to be removed from the list. Students will be provided extra time to complete assignments. Students will be required to attend homework sessions (before/after school and/or Friday school) until all assignments have been completed at 70% or better.
