This year was full of fun and memories! We had a great time and students responded well to the shift in morale! A huge part of that is the work and ideas of Ms. Brown and the student council with a special thanks to our AD Sonja Mazaira & K-12 Principal Michelle Price, who sadly we will be saying goodbye to at the end of this school year. She will still be in the area just serving as a parent and community member rather than our Principal. We will also see a change in our AD position as Mrs. Mazaira is taking next year to focus on her classes. We will be welcoming in a new Principal, Mr. Wilson and AD Mr. Lange. I know great things will continue to happen as our school and community continues to grow.
The last month has surely been a busy one! Between track, which Cascade HS rocked and cleaned house at Districts! Both boys and girls brought home 1st Place. Divisionals boys brought home 3rd, almost all the girls PR’d in their prospective events and are taking a great group up to State this weekend.
The seniors graduated last Sunday, Kindergarten and 8th grade are set to have their ceremonies this week as well.
Ms. Brown was able to take a few students on a Buffalo hunt. On Friday, May 19, several High Schoolers visited a ranch outside of Choteau to participate in a Bison Harvest. This was an amazing opportunity and sacred ceremony. The students were able to participate in a Native American Ceremony that is hundreds of years old. When harvesting Bison the hunt is blessed and thanked for what we are being given. Once the Bison was harvested, the students could skin the Bison, look at the organs and see/understand how they were used, and even taste some. If you see the students, ask them about the harvest, they would love to tell you about their experience.
Hope you all have a wonderful Summer! See you again August 21st!

March has been a busy month! We are blessed to have so many opportunities for some hands-on learning as well the ability to take some special trips.
On March 7, 23 Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) members came to speak to the 10th and 12th-grade History classes. The members spoke about many interesting topics and brought several amazing artifacts. They spoke about the DAR and who and how it was founded. In order to be in the DAR or SAR, you must have a relative that participated in the Revolutionary War in some way. These ladies can trace their lineage to the Revolutionary War and other places. They spoke about the significance of the Revolutionary War. They talked about finding your ancestry and its importance. They also talked briefly about the Salem Witch Trials because two of them had relatives accused of witchcraft. It was a great presentation
Some artifacts were paper money from the 1700s (Three Pence), the Join or Die symbol printed on Benjamin Franklin's printing press, an original John Hancock signature, and acorns from the oak tree in Salem.
Government students watch CNN Student News every day. Every day Coy Wire does a shout-out to a school at the end of his broadcast. The students had been trying to get a shout-out from the beginning of the year so they decided to write him letters and it finally worked! Here is a picture of Coy Wire from CNN Students News with our letters.
On 3/14/23 the Cascade Juniors and Seniors went to Helena to see the Government in action. The first meeting they had was with Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen and then Governor Greg Gianforte. They were amazing meetings and great questions were asked. After this we had Representative Miner, Romano, and Senator Fitzpatrick talk to the group. Cascade teamed up with Fairfield and did a scavenger hunt around the Capitol. They did a fantastic job and had a lot of fun. Next we watched the Government in action and attended the House and Senate sessions in action. The students learned so much about the process and how bills are discussed and voted for or against. It was a great experience!
We took 52 students to the regional science fair ranging from 6th to 10th grade. Our students received a total of 13 special awards, 21 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. Thirty-seven of those students are advancing to the state science fair in Missoula on April 3rd and 4th. Two of our students have already qualified for the international science fair which will be held May 13th-19th in Dallas, Texas
We also had an eventful morning on March 7th. When a staff member and student noticed a small fire in one of the light switches in a hallway. Staff and students did so great on getting out of the building and emergency services got here quickly and were able to get the fire under control with very little damage inside the school. Another huge thank you to the emergency service members, all the staff, students and parents for staying calm and patient as we navigated through this emergency.

It has been a whirlwind the last few months! Unfortunately we have been plagued with the norovirus all over the school. Please remember if your student is sick with vomiting, diarrhea and/or fever they need to stay home for 24-36 hours after their symptoms are gone.
Our boys and girls basketball teams had some great performances in the District tournaments. Both teams came out with 2nd place trophies and earned a spot at Divisionals. This was the boys’ first showing at divisionals in several years.
The wrestlers took 5 kids down to the State tournament in Billings. Senior Connor Sawyer placed 4th.
Track season is just around the corner, keep an eye out for updates on that.
In elementary school the 5th graders finished a social studies unit on westward expansion. We learned about the Gila, Oregon, California, Mormon, Sante Fe and Old Spanish Trails. They then worked to create museum artifacts that would demonstrate how and why people moved west on the various trails. Check out their museum display located in the display cabinet of the elementary entrance. While you are there, take time to view their science models demonstrating the four spheres of Earth: biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere.
