After School Bus To Be Canceled Due To Bus Driver Shortage

Due to a shortage of bus drivers, Cascade Schools will no longer be able to offer the daily 6:15 p.m. after-school activity bus route to Ulm and Wolf Creek. This will be effective as of November 19, 2015.

The District has made every effort to provide students with transportation where possible. The Cascade School District is one of Montana’s largest districts, serving nearly 2400 square miles, and 793 daily bus route miles. Cascade has historically provided transport to the neighboring Ulm and Wolf Creek students, which has included the after-school bus for easy inclusion of extra-curricular activities. A fully staffed transportation department, including substitute drivers, has made these services possible. However, the ongoing difficulty of finding full-time drivers just to maintain regular established routes has been a challenge. Neighboring districts are facing the same shortage and challenges. Running the additional late-night bus will no longer be possible due to the shortage.

Those interested in driving bus full time for Cascade Schools should call 406-468-9383. Visit with Damon Schrecengost, Transportation Director, or Becky Smith in the Superintendent’s office.
