“B-r-i-b-e-r-y” was the winning word in the Cascade School spelling bee that was held Wednesday, February 11, 2015.  Eighth grader Virgil Wolfe spelled this final word in Round 15, out spelling 15 other contestants. Kaylee Todd, also in eighth grade, came in second place and sixth grader Ally Ethridge came in third. Many students did their homework and came prepared to do their very best. They used various strategies to help them remember and spell the words correctly.  Some would look up or try to write the word in the air trying to visualize the word. Others chose to tap out each letter or close their eyes. Taking time to ask for definitions or sentences also proved helpful. Virgil and Kaylee will now compete in the Cascade County Spelling Bee in Great Falls on Tuesday, March 3rd at West Elementary School at 1:00 PM. Virgil also receives a one year subscription to Britannica Online for Kids. Winners from the county bee will move on to the Montana Treasure State Spelling Bee in Billings on Saturday, March 21, 2015.
