Keeping Staff and Students Safe in Cascade Public Schools

Drills: The School participates in periodic fire and emergency evacuation drills throughout the school year, as directed by OPI. In October, the school participates in the regional Great Rocky Mountain ShakeOut earthquake drill. We also participate in shelter-in-place and lock-down drills in event of an armed person in or around the school house, or any other emergency that requires the students be protected. We hope we never have to evacuate or lockdown, but if the emergency arises we will be prepared because we practice practice practice.

Drug Safety: The school periodically brings certified drug detection K-9s into the building to sniff public areas, including around student lockers. If the dogs alert to the presence of drugs they have been trained to detect, then school personnel may search the locker or item detected by the K-9.

Building Access: The building's front doors shall remain locked during the school day. Access is allowed via the Commons. All Visitors must report to the Student Secretary before proceeding elsewhere in the building. Plans are under development to install electronic-controlled locks and video intercom to further control access to the building during school hours.
