REASONS WHY I LOVE TRACK & FIELD
It is a great representation of individual effort and work ethic. It doesn't matter how tall or big you are, distances, heights, and times don't lie. You create your own success.
Comradery. Among teammates, but also among competing athletes. If you put in time and effort training, your teammates know it, and so do your competitors. There is mutual respect formed between individuals who see others working hard for the same goal.
It builds character. The realization that success doesn’t just happen is a necessary life lesson. The technical aspect of Track & Field makes it impossible to have instant gratification.
There is something for everybody. Many events are so vastly different that you have to appreciate the time it takes to prepare for every event. If you’re willing to train, you will find one of them that you will find success.
The clock (or tape) doesn’t lie. Your marks - against competition and against yourself - are a direct reflection on your training. If you don’t put in the time, you won’t improve.
The feeling of a PR. Physical evidence that your hard work is paying off.
The roar of the crowd. Accomplishments aren’t as much fun without teammates and coaches cheering you on. Cheers from complete strangers are nice too.
Team Points. A reminder that individual actions, contribute to the success of the group. Relay teams are important but so are the 15 other events that can add up to a trophy.
REASONS WHY I LOVE RUNNING
-
Running makes me feel healthy and happy. No matter the distance, when I finish a run I know that I am doing something to improve my overall well-being.
-
Running feeds my competitive side. I Like to feel like I am accomplishing things, even if that is simply running faster than yesterday. Plus, winning is FUN.
-
PR’s, enough said. Running is something that I can improve at the more that I do.
-
Running has made me mentally tough. Running can be hard..so can life. But I keep proving to myself time and again that I am much stronger than I think I am.
-
The people. Whether it is supportive teammates, coaches or friends or even complete strangers, someone is going to tell you how awesome it is that you’re a runner. And no matter where you go, you will find someone that is part of the running community and completely gets it.
-
Running clears my mind. On longer runs, with each step, my mind files away the good stuff, tosses the junk, and organizes what’s really important, while Sprints force me to think about nothing but mechanics and form.
