Members of Cascade County Sheriff's Office LT Bob Rosipal and Sergeant Landon Kotesky were on hand again today with our Badger Junior High and High School students to learn about ALICE active-shooter training response (like our staff did two weeks ago). ALICE is the acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate response plan to counter an active-shooter situation in our school. Students went hands on with the instructors and learned how force can be met with more force to save lives and put the bad guys out of commission. All in the name of improving school safety and security for our students and staff, the ALICE training is making its way across Montana's schools in record numbers. Perhaps you've seen some news of this on TV when it's been reported in the bigger cities across our state. With an average response time of 15 minutes by law enforcement, most active-shooter incidents are over in less than five minutes, meaning we have minimal time to react, and now we're better prepared how to respond. Many thanks to CCSO for their interest in improving our own response until "the good guys" of law enforcement arrive. Taking down an intruder may be impossible by two students, but four may do the trick of turning the tide and subduing the attacker. An armed intruder can't get off accurate shots at victims if he's under assault. Here a student lunges for the intruder, causing aim site to be loss. Moments later other students join in and tackle the gunman to the ground. Note: this is a "red gun" used for training. It's made out of hard plastic and does not fire any projectile. THANKS CCSO!
