Cascade school board policy 3612 covers computer, network, and internet activities by staff and students. The policy was updated in 2012 to comply with federal and state regulations covering these topics. The school uses an electronic filter called a SonicWall appliance, which can include or dis-clude websites based on content that is either appropriate, or inappropriate for access by Staff or Students. In accordance with federal regulation, and to remain eligible for the federal e-Rate program, the school filters pornographic material and other content deemed unnecessary for school use. Links to federal regulations for filtering and CIPA, the Child Internet Protection Act, are listed on the board policy. In addition to electronic monitoring and filtering, school staff will physically or electronically monitor student use of the computers and internet with computer applications including LanSchool and/or GoGuardian. Student use of school-owned, or personal owned devices on the school network, while at school, are subject to inspection to insure compliance with federal regulations. At a Board meeting on May 15th, 2018, the Trustees were presented with a copy of the pertinent policy and documents during the Superintendent's Report on Technology.
